Overview

A Continuing Medical Education activity presented by the Stanford Center for Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing. This Native American Youth Mental Health ECHO didactic session features a presentation by Rose Steele and Steve Sust, MD.

This information provided will discuss how cultural engagement and integration of cultural practitioners in tribal clinics support early intervention and resilience in youth with Eating Disorders. Learn screening methods, positive body image messaging, and collaborative strategies across clinics, families, and schools.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Recognize the protective nature of early engagement in culture and how the integration of cultural perspective in primary care clinics can promote resilience.
  2. Acquire an understanding of how the integration of cultural practitioners into tribal clinics can assist clinicians in addressing Eating Disorders.
  3. Recognize attitudes/statements that affect youth body image and positivity
  4. Identify Eating Disorder screening and intervention methods in primary care settings
  5. Acquire new knowledge regarding cultural and psychosocial stressors affecting Eating Disorders that requires close collaboration between clinicians, schools, parents, and children.
