The purpose of this CME course on optic disc drusen is to teach: (1) how optic disc drusen manifest in adults in children and how they cause vision loss, (2) genetic and systemic conditions associated with optic disc drusen, (3) biomarkers for optic disc drusen and vision loss, and (4) treatment and clinical trial design for optic disc drusen.

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the most common clinical presentations of adults and children with optic disc drusen
  2. Demonstrate the current best ophthalmic imaging techniques to evaluate patients with optic disc drusen and related causes of vision loss
  3. Appreciate the association of genetic conditions and optic disc drusen
  4. Discuss the best biomarkers of vision loss due to optic nerve diseases including optic disc drusen
  5. Examine novel approaches to treatment of optic neuropathies such as optic disc drusen, including regenerative therapy, visual stimulation, and neuroprotection
