Overview
This weekly difficult case conference hosted by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office, focuses on complex and high-yield cases in forensic pathology and forensic neuropathology. Designed for physicians and residents and fellows on service, these conferences offer a structured forum for discussing challenging autopsy cases, including differential diagnoses, scene and autopsy findings, and medicolegal death investigations. Educational content includes photographic review, instruction on forensic investigative processes, and detailed discussions on the determination of cause and manner of death. Sessions will support competency development in forensic pathology through interactive learning and expert case analysis.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Analyze complex forensic pathology and neuropathology cases by applying principles of differential diagnosis, integrating autopsy and scene findings, and considering medicolegal context.
  2. Formulate accurate cause and manner of death determinations using appropriate forensic terminology and evidence-based investigative methods.
  3. Engage in peer discussion and expert-led analysis to enhance critical thinking, diagnostic reasoning, and communication skills relevant to forensic case evaluation.
