This session includes a didactic lecture followed by Q&A and exchange between panel members. The discussion focuses on access to care and the use digital tools to provide care to those who are impacted by health disparities. The definition of bioethics will be reviewed, as well as ways in which bioethics can improve access to care. In the United States, one out of five adults experience a mental health issue in their lives. Many people who need care do not receive it, especially those in lower economical communities. Asians, Blacks and Hispanic and other minority populations do not have access to the same resources as those in affluent communities. Digital health technology may help with data collection and support for those who do not have access to care. This session will engage learners in the discussion about how digital health technology can help improve equity and access to mental health care and services/resources.

Nicole Martinez, JD, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics. She received her law degree from Harvard Law School and her doctorate in social sciences at University of Chicago. Dr. Martinez is a bioethicist and social scientist. Her research includes the ethical, legal and social implications of artificial intelligence, digital health and new technologies in health care, such as the impact on issues of privacy, equity and bias, as well as mental health policy.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Stanford Medicine is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this activity receive 1.25 continuing education credits. 

American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) - Enduring Materials
