Overview
RibFest 2025 will educate learners on the indications and techniques for surgical stabilization of rib and sternal fractures (SSRF) and adjunct pain control techniques. This will be accomplished through a series of lectures and case-based discussions and supervised hands-on cadaver training. Learners will be exposed to both open and intrathoracic techniques for plating, and intercostal nerve cryoablation and use of local anesthesia. Lectures will include: a) indications for surgical stabilization of rib and sternal fractures; b) surgical approaches for open SSRF; c) approaches for intrathoracic SSRF; d) pain control adjuncts to SSRF; e) management of complications after SSRF. The cadaver learning sessions will provide hands-on practical skills for open surgical approaches, intrathoracic approaches, and SSRF techniques. Learners will be exposed to several different instrument platforms. At the completion of this course, learners will able to describe indications for SSRF, demonstrate on a cadaver how to perform SSRF, and be able to discuss management of potential complications after SSRF. The target audience for this CME activity will be surgical residents, trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and thoracic surgeons in the San Francisco Bay and Northern California areas.
