Overview
The 2026 Stanford Optic Disc Drusen Symposium will provide an overview of clinical and scientific research on optic disc drusen, an optic neuropathy characterized by calcified deposits at the unmyelinated optic nerve. We will focus on disease mechanisms on ectopic calcification, neurobiology of the retinal ganglion cells and their axons (the optic nerve), and discussion of treatment and future clinical trials. We will also have expert panel discussions, patient discussion, and a poster session featuring Stanford optic nerve and retinal ganglion cell research (in person only).

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify optic disc drusen and describe how they cause vision loss.
  2. Review the latest clinical and basic science research in optic disc drusen
  3. Discuss optic neuropathies such as anterior ischemic optic neuropathy and glaucoma, which are relevant to vision loss in optic disc drusen.
