Overview
This session will explore the problems associated with patients using Fentanyl and starting Buprenorphine Treatment. Dr. Winstanley will review the scientific rationale and existing literature supporting Buprenorphine treatment among patients using fentanyl, followed by a presentation of the current study’s methodology and preliminary findings. The course aims to provide a deeper understanding of how Buprenorphine treatment may offer a novel, evidence-based intervention for individuals struggling with Fentanyl, and will conclude with a discussion of implications for future research and clinical practice.

At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Specify at least two (2) challenges to initiating buprenorphine treatment among patients using fentanyl.
  2. Describe at least three (3) key methods and primary findings of a national survey of clinician-reported problems initiating buprenorphine treatment among patients using fentanyl.
  3. Distinguish at least three (3) strategies clinicians are using to improve engagement in buprenorphine treatment.
