Overview

This live, online training in Compassion-Focused Therapy for Psychosis (CFTp) provides advanced instruction in applying CFT principles and interventions in clinical practice. Building on foundational CFT competencies, the program emphasizes the development of compassionate motivation, skills, and behavioral practices that support therapeutic change for individuals experiencing early psychosis as well as those with longer-standing psychotic symptoms. Participants will learn how to implement a range of evidence-informed CFTp interventions, including parts work, voice dialoguing, guided imagery, compassionate letter-writing, and experiential techniques such as role-play, chair work, embodiment, and therapeutic enactment. Clinical demonstrations, case examples, and structured practice opportunities will help clinicians integrate these methods into their ongoing work.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe the Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) model and its relevance for people with psychosis.
  2. Discuss psychoeducation about evolved brains, with their built-in patterns, emotion systems, and multiple selves.
  3. Strategize to create internal cues of safeness (from the body) and external cues of safeness (from the social world)
  4. Develop clients’ capacity to cultivate and deepen their compassionate self.
  5. Develop techniques to facilitate compassionate relating to self, to others, to voices, and to parts that strongly hold beliefs
