Friday, March 20, 2026, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, A Live Webinar

Overview
This workshop will provide a critical examination of the construct of “schizophrenia,” exploring its historical origins, reliability, and validity within contemporary psychiatric practice. Participants will review current research on biological and genetic factors associated with psychosis, alongside the substantial evidence for psychosocial contributors such as trauma, stress, and social adversity. The session will also address the evidence base for medical and non-medical treatments, discussing both the therapeutic benefits and potential harms of antipsychotic medications and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Alternative, recovery-oriented, and psychosocial interventions will be presented to broaden clinicians’ understanding of effective, person-centered approaches to supporting individuals experiencing psychosis.
