Overview

This course is part of a series that explores the health conditions, common diagnoses, and surgical procedures affecting body functions and structure, activity, and participation of individuals with acute, chronic, or acute on chronic neurological impairments and individuals who need neurosurgery (including elective and trauma). Course content will emphasize a holistic perspective across the spectrum of health and function with a focus on optimal movement and safe participation in physical activity within an interdisciplinary team model. Content emphasizes recovery of function and wellness in the context of neurological diagnoses as it relates to relevant models of practice, evidence-based care, models of disablement, hypothesis-oriented clinical practice, and current literature. Course content will be delivered by practice experts, clinical specialists, and rehab clinicians in the acute care neurology setting.  Content addresses areas related to the Acute Care Physical Therapy Analysis of Practice as well as the acquisition of hands-on skills supporting the resident’s development of specialization in acute care physical therapy.
