This activity will discuss and present scholarship related to the history of the profession, scientific discoveries, key figures, and institutional developments that have shaped the field of anesthesiology. This meeting will bring together historians, clinicians, and educators to explore how historical insights can inform current practice, education, and innovation in anesthesia.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (12.50 hours), Non-Physician Participation Credit (12.50 hours)

1. Identify key historical milestones and figures that have shaped the development of anesthesiology as a profession.
2. Analyze how past scientific discoveries and clinical practices influence current anesthesia techniques and decision-making.
3. Reflect on the ethical, cultural, and institutional challenges faced by earlier generations of anesthesiologists and their relevance today.
4. Apply historical insights to enhance professional identity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and teaching within the anesthesia care team.

In support of improving patient care, Stanford Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
