Overview

The 6th Annual Conference on Disability in Healthcare and Medicine is a virtual event dedicated to supporting healthcare providers and students with disabilities. Our goal is to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals in delivering quality care to patients with disabilities, while also fostering the inclusion of providers with disabilities. This conference offers a rich learning experience for students, trainees, practitioners, and allies in medicine, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, as well as staff and administrators in hospitals and medical schools.

Sign language interpreters and close captioning will be provided at this conference.

To make this event accessible to as many people as possible, SMADIE has decided not to charge a registration fee. For those of you who can contribute, please consider donating as suggested below. There is no minimum, and SMADIE only asks that you contribute what you are able. These donations will allow SMADIE to continue building on their outreach programs, provide more resources, and host more events.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Develop strategies to overcome the barriers to disability inclusion in medicine for healthcare professionals, trainees and patients.
  2. Foster inclusion and cultivate a workplace that values diversity, equity and inclusion with a focus on the unique perspectives and contributions of individuals with disabilities.
  3. Incorporate disability justice into teaching, mentoring, collaboration, and patient care.
  4. Apply strategies to create a neurodiversity-affirming culture within medical training that will ultimately benefit both patients and medical trainees of all neurotypes.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Stanford Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

American Medical Association (AMA) 
Stanford Medicine designates this Live Activity for a maximum of 6.00 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Stanford Health Care Department of Rehabilitation is an approved provider for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy for courses that meet the requirements set forth by the respective California Boards. This course is approved for 6.00 hour(s) CEU for PT, OT, and SLP.
