Overview

In this episode, our host, Dr. Mijiza Sanchez-Guzman speaks with Peter Poullos, MD, radiologist at Stanford Health Care and Founder and Co-Chair of Stanford Medicine Alliance for Disability Inclusion and Equity (SMADIE). Dr. Poullos shares his journey of overcoming challenges as a first-generation student, from struggling in high school and nearly missing college application deadlines to finding mentors who guided him through medical school and residency. He also talks about the impact of his spinal cord injury, which led him to switch from gastroenterology to radiology, and how it motivated him to advocate for people with disabilities in medicine. Dr. Poullos highlights the influential mentors who opened doors for him and the mentorship program he co-created to support students and professionals with disabilities.
