Overview
This is a Stanford, Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Series open to other providing services and specialties at Stanford Children's Health that presents patient cases that are complex, challenging, have a high educational value, or are novel situations that require a multidisciplinary approach to decision making of patient care for patient progress. History of the patient is reviewed and then discussed with the intent of improving patient safety and quality improvement.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Incorporate evidence-based interventions and best practices for assessing and managing pediatric pain, and guidelines from relevant specialty associations.
  2. Provide comprehensive education on the various types of pediatric pain, including acute, chronic, and procedural pain, as well as their unique manifestations and management approaches.
  3. Emphasize the importance of individualized, multimodal pain management techniques in pediatric care, including pharmacological interventions, non-pharmacological approaches, and psychological support.
  4. Provide guidance on the transition of pediatric patients with acute to chronic pain, emphasizing the importance of continuity of care and ongoing support during this transition period.
  5. Illustrate the impact of pediatric pain on psychological well-being and quality of life, and discuss the importance of integrated psychosocial support services for both patients and families.
