Pediatric Grand Rounds (RECORDING) Social Responsibility & the Weaponization of Genetics Research

This presentation is a recording of a Stanford Pediatric Grand Rounds Session.  World-renowned experts will present the latest research, practice guidelines, and treatment protocols to advance best practices in the care of pediatric patients. These online recordings will provide pediatricians and family physicians with up-to-date clinical information on a wide range of clinical issues encountered in daily pediatric practice. This talk examines the harms, potential benefits, and social and ethical responsibilities of stakeholders involved in the conduct/translation of emerging genomic technologies. It presents a harm mitigation strategy that is increasingly utilized in domains such as social and behavioral genomics and population genetics.

1. Discuss how genetic/genomic research has been weaponized in service of racist, classist.
2. Analyze stakeholders' social responsibilities to mitigate the harms and promote the benefits of genetic/genomic research.
3. Identify potential strategies for harm mitigation of genetic/genomic research.
