Health professionals play an important role in sport and anti-doping. This CME activity provides current anti-doping information for physicians and other health and medical professionals via interactive text, animations, videos, and case-based studies. After completing the course, participants will understand the doping control process and their roles and responsibilities in anti-doping, enabling them to better support their athlete-patients in clean sport.

Intended Audience
This course is designed for health professionals of all specialties, including sports medicine, endocrinology, psychiatry, and orthopedics, as well as all other health professionals that may interact with athletes.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Recognize and review anti-doping rules and policies that apply to health professionals and athlete-patients.
  2. Review the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List and utilize resources to verify the status of substances, medications, and methods.
  3. Support athlete-patients with regard to anti-doping rules, sample collection processes, and the rights and responsibilities of athletes and athlete support personnel.
  4. Discuss the potential sanctions for health professionals who fail to comply with anti-doping rules.
  5. Describe the Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) process and when and how to submit a completed TUE application.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Stanford Medicine and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. Stanford Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Credit Designation 
American Medical Association (AMA) 

Stanford Medicine designates this Enduring Material for a maximum of 2.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Board of Certification, Inc (BOC)
Stanford Medicine (BOC AP#: 0000751) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers (ATs). This program is eligible for a maximum of 2.25 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.
