During the COVID-19 crisis, focusing on the emotional health and well being of our families is of the utmost importance. Within weeks, the crisis has shifted family communication from a focus on short-term stressors to long-term fears and uncertainties. Communication in families is complex under usual circumstances, and crises such as COVID-19 enhance the intensity of many interactions between family members. This webinar aims to support the Stanford Medical School community with practical evidence-based communication and problem solving strategies that facilitate positive communication within families. Specific sheltering-in-place situations will be discussed for at-risk groups. Participants will leave with affirmative family communication strategies and resources to mitigate conflict, connect as a family, and build resiliency during critical times. All caregivers of children and teens (i.e., fathers, mothers, extended family, other caregivers) are encouraged to attend given their unique perspectives.
