Treating Persecutory Delusions: the Feeling Safe Programme

Persecutory delusions, which involve unfounded beliefs that others are plotting harm, are pervasive in severe mental disorders like schizophrenia, significantly impacting mental and physical well-being. Unfortunately, existing treatments often fall short in addressing this issue. To bridge this gap, the Feeling Safe Programme was meticulously crafted over fifteen years of extensive research and clinical practice. This workshop provides full training in the Feeling Safe Programme, covering the assessment and five intervention models (Worry, Sleep, Self-confidence, Voices, and Defenses). Attendees will be provided with therapy booklets, which guide intervention and are shared with patients. The workshop includes didactic lecture, videos, animations, discussion, questions and answers, and role-plays to provide an immersive and interactive educational experience.

Guest Trainers:  
Professor Daniel Freeman is the world’s leading researcher of paranoia. He holds the Chair of Psychology at the University of Oxford and is a Professorial Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford. Daniel is a consultant clinical psychologist at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Senior Investigator and leads the Oxford Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis (O-CAP) research group. A Fellow of the British Academy, he presented the BBC Radio 4 series A History of Delusions and has described his clinical research career in a new book, Paranoia: A Journey into Extreme Mistrust and Anxiety. 
 
Dr. Louise Isham is a consultant clinical psychologist specializing in psychological treatments for distressing psychotic experiences. She works for the Oxford Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis (O-CAP) research group at the University of Oxford, where she was a therapist on the Feeling Safe trial and leads a program of work developing the psychological understanding and treatment of harmful grandiose delusions. She is also the CBT for psychosis training lead at the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre, an internationally renowned CBT training organization. She is the course director of the University’s PGCert in Enhanced CBT (Psychosis and Bipolar).
