Master Clinician Series 2024 September: Hallucinations, Dreams & Visions: Indigenous Perspectives

In this presentation, guest speaker Dr. Lomay will discuss and explore the differences among visions, dreams, and hallucinations from an American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawai’ian perspective. Through case studies and discussion, she will explore American Indian psychology, worldviews, and spirituality; ethical and cultural considerations; the inclusion of cultural context within the DSM-5; the neurobiology of hallucinations; and competent discernment. She will review how future and practicing mental health professionals can build vital cultural competencies needed to differentiate between healthy cultural practices and the presence of psychopathology in clinical work.
