Overview
Substance use, especially opioids and stimulants, continues to rise in the US, including among women of childbearing age. Pregnant women who use opioids and stimulants face many challenges to receiving appropriate care, including stigma, limited access to treatment, and fear of legal consequences. This one-hour recorded webinar is designed to assist health care providers caring for pregnant and postpartum women to understand the characteristics of evidence-based practices to treat this vulnerable population. Candy Stockton, MD, will cover the science and best practices in treating pregnant women who use opioids, stimulants, or both.

  1. Explain two (2) ways in which MAT helps mothers with opioid use disorder and their babies.
  2. Propose three (3) research-based practices to treat pregnant women with opioid or stimulant use disorder.
  3. Identify three (3) barriers to care for pregnant women with opioid and/or stimulant use disorder.
  4. Summarize three (3) signs of neonatal abstinence syndrome in opioid-exposed infants.
