Overview
Internet Enduring Material sponsored by Stanford University School of Medicine. Presented by Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Teaching LGBTQ+ Health is an online faculty development course designed for health professions educators to improve their ability and confidence to teach LGBTQ+ Health content to their trainees. In a 2014 landmark publication, the Association of American Medical Colleges called for changes to medical school curricula and climate to reduce health disparities for LGBTQ+ individuals.

Over the 8 modules in this course, you will learn important LGBTQ+ health content and practical ways to integrate these concepts into your daily clinical teaching. Specific topics include: A primer on LGBTQ+ health vocabulary, an overview of social and behavioral determinants of queer health, a review of several teaching strategies and interactive case examples of queer health issues.

  1. Define common LGBTQ+ vocabulary for medical students
  2. Discuss how social and behavioral determinants of queer health impact patient care
  3. Implement appropriate instructional techniques to teach LGBTQ+ health to students
  4. Explain potential challenges to healthcare access for LGBTQ+ patients
  5. Develop effective techniques for eliciting an LGBTQ-inclusive sexual history

American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) - Enduring Materials
