Overview
This course is designed for physicians and advanced care practitioners caring for patients in a primary care setting. The course will provide a clinical overview of the diagnosis and management strategies of common GI and liver disorders that are encountered in the primary care setting and provide guidance on how and when to refer patients to their GI counterparts.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Evaluate the most common key diseases in gastroenterology and hepatology
  2. Develop strategies to evaluate and manage patients presenting with diseases in gastroenterology and hepatology commonly encountered in a primary care setting
  3. Determine follow-up management of key diseases in conjunction with gastroenterology and when, if needed, to refer to a GI specialist.

Accreditation

The Stanford University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation
The Stanford University School of Medicine designates this Live Activity for a maximum of 4.50 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The California Board of Registered Nursing recognizes that Continuing Medical Education (CME) is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements as long as the course is certified for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM (rn.ca.gov).  Nurses will receive a Certificate of Participation following this activity that may be used for license renewal. The provider number is: 0000751.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 4.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.  It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
