Overview
This symposium will focus on two cornerstone areas of perioperative care: preoperative cardiac risk assessment and perioperative medication management. Faculty will review current guideline-driven approaches to stratifying cardiac risk before noncardiac surgery, including the appropriate use of clinical risk indices, functional capacity assessment, and biomarker and stress testing in select patients, and will address how to translate risk assessment into actionable perioperative plans, including when further cardiac workup is warranted versus when it may delay necessary surgery without improving outcomes. The symposium will also equip attendees with an evidence-based framework for perioperative medication management, addressing drugs across a range of pharmacologic classes.
