Overview
Navigating nutrition and supplementation can be challenging for young athletes and their families. This session provides practical, evidence-based guidance on sports nutrition for pediatric and adolescent athletes, including key nutrition considerations during clinic visits, commonly used supplements, use cases for creatine and protein powder, and when a visit to a registered dietitian is appropriate. Join us to gain practical strategies to support safe and healthy nutrition practices in youth athletes.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Discuss key sports nutrition considerations to address during pediatric and adolescent health visits.
  2. Describe commonly used dietary supplements that youth athletes and their families frequently inquire about.
  3. Summarize the current evidence, indications, and limitations related to the use of creatine and protein supplementation in youth athletes.
  4. Discuss when referral to a registered dietitian is indicated for youth athletes.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Stanford Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

 Board of Certification, Inc (BOC)

Stanford Medicine (BOC AP#: 0000751) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers (ATs). This program is eligible for a maximum of 1.00 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program. 

Stanford Health Care Department of Rehabilitation is an approved provider for physical therapy and occupational therapy for courses that meet the requirements set forth by the respective California Boards. This course is approved for 1.00 hour CEU for PT and OT.
