In this Neurology Grand Rounds Resident research presentation, Dr. Jacob Loeffler discusses the role of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Dr. Loffler begins his research lecture by discussing the EBV hypothesis, biology, and its relation to B cell biology. He then reviews the relation of EBV evidence in MS. Dr. Loeffler then shares information the molecular mimicry model and poses an open question – are autoreactive B cells EBV positive and is EBV promoting their survival? He then moves on to discuss identifying EBV positive B cells, and the complexity in identifying them. Dr. Loeffler then concludes with sharing next steps in B cell work.
