Master Clinician Series 2025: March: Transformative Mutual Aid for Clinicians: Supporting Recovery in Psychosis Care

This workshop introduces Transformative Mutual Aid Practices (T-MAPs)—an approach that centers mutual aid principles to enhance clinical work with individuals experiencing serious mental illness (SMI) and psychosis. Part of Stanford’s Master Clinician Series, this training is designed to connect mental health professionals with innovative and collaborative strategies for supporting recovery in complex mental health situations. At the core of this workshop is an exploration of how mutual aid can transform clinical practice. By fostering community-oriented care, mutual aid principles encourage an environment where both clients and clinicians learn from each other and build stronger, more resilient support systems. This approach shifts the therapeutic dynamic from hierarchical to relational, making space for greater client agency and deeper healing.

1. Identify the core principles of Transformative Mutual Aid Practices (T-MAPs) and how they support recovery in serious mental illness and psychosis.
2. Apply collaborative strategies to co-create personalized recovery plans that enhance client engagement and empowerment.
3. Utilize mutual aid principles to build stronger, non-hierarchical therapeutic relationships with clients.
4. Integrate T-MAPs into existing clinical approaches to improve resilience and reduce isolation among clients.
5. Evaluate the effectiveness of T-MAPs in promoting client-centered outcomes in psychosis care.

In support of improving patient care, Stanford Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
