Running related overuse injuries in adolescents are becoming more common with the increase in popularity of the sport of running. Participants will learn about the most common running related overuse injuries in the pediatric population. This recorded session will include the risk factors for developing an injury along with preventative measures that can be taken. Participants will also understand the indications for specialized care.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Summarize the most common running related overuse injuries in adolescents seen in practice.
  2. Determine the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors for running related injuries in adolescents.
  3. Develop strategies to help patients reduce running related injury risks.
  4. Evaluate current trends in running footwear along with myths and misconceptions around footwear.
  5. Consider indications for specialized care with patients as needed.
