Overview
The 3rd Annual Updates in Gastroenterology and Hepatology Course will explore the latest advancements in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. It aims to provide a concise update tailored to gastroenterologists, hepatologists, primary care providers, internists, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses. The course focuses on delivering important updates to help healthcare professionals stay informed and provide optimal care to patients with gastrointestinal issues. Participants will learn practical strategies and diagnostic approaches for various conditions such as esophageal disease, motility disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreaticobiliary disease, cancer screening, liver disorders, and abdominal pain. The educational approach includes lectures, Q&A sessions, debates, and informal discussions covering technology, research, diagnosis, guidelines, and treatment strategies. The course also offers opportunities for participants to interact with Stanford faculty members, engage with expert speakers, and build connections during sessions and breaks.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Analyze the complaint of dysphagia and symptoms suggestive of esophageal dysmotility
  2. Manage diarrhea in the context of inflammatory bowel disease
  3. Determine appropriate treatment approaches to use in the care of patients with fatty liver
  4. Evaluate the diagnostic options available for abdominal pain to further define symptom etiology
  5. Consider medical and surgical treatment approaches for gastroesophageal reflux and appropriately utilize these therapies
