Overview

Stanford DEA MATE provides on demand content that covers a range of topics related to opioid prescribing and pain management required by the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act. As of June 27, 2023, the Federal Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act mandates practitioners to confirm completion of a new training requirement (8-hours of education related to substance use disorder management) by checking a box on their online DEA registration form. This applies to both initial registration applications and renewal. 

This training is tailored to different provider groups, making it more relevant to their needs. Learners can complete the activities at their own pace and in any combination to fulfill their eight-hour training requirement. Topics include:
     - Drug Regulation and Opioid Misuse in the US
     - Opioid Prescription and Management
     - Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder
     - Pain Management in Special Populations
     - Prevention and Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

Objectives

  4. Examine pain management and opioid use disorder in pregnant women, children, and neonates, including understanding the impact of cannabis use on the pediatric brain.
  5. Examine overdose prevention, harm reduction strategies, and evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders, particularly in young people.
