Overview
The Updates on Esophageal Disease Webinar Series aims to shed light on recent advances in the field of esophageal disorders. Participants will learn strategies and diagnostic approaches to common esophageal complaints, including dysphagia and reflux symptoms, as well as specifics regarding less common but emerging disorders including achalasia. This webinar series consist of 3 hour internet-based educational sessions with key faculty members held approximately 3 times per year. Each webinar will focus in depth on a particular key clinical issue. This webinar will focus on the increasing clinical burden, diagnosis and management of achalasia. It will feature talks from experts in all facets of the disease combined with the presentation of complex cases illustrating the challenges of multidisciplinary decision making. We will highlight these advances in a succinct fashion to educate the attendees on the key developments in this area.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Implement new diagnostic strategies and treatment approaches for patients with achalasia
  2. Determine the best options to establish a diagnosis of achalasia
  3. Evaluate the risks versus benefits for endoscopic treatment options including botulinum toxin and dilation
  4. Determine the pros and cons of per-oral endoscopic myotomy
  5. Describe which achalasia patients are most ideally-treated with esophagectomy

In support of improving patient care, Stanford Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

American Board of Internal Medicine MOC Credit 
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 3.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
