We accomplish this with lectures by expert clinicians, live demonstrations and workshops. The COVID-19 pandemic is amplifying racism and racial disparities in medicine. Race-based assumptions and biases against Black patients, in particular, affect clinical treatment decisions and cause stark and unacceptable racial health disparities. This workshop will introduce Presence for Racial Justice, an adaptation of Presence 5, which is an evidence-based framework for fostering humanism in medicine. The workshop will begin with a presentation of evidence for specific anti-racist communication practices, with a focus on interactions with Black patients. Participants will then participate in small group discussions guided by the Presence for Racial Justice framework to share anti-racist practices that they use in clinical medicine and medical education. The session will end with a large group debrief as well as goal setting and a commitment to employing anti-racist practices in clinical interactions.

Maximum attendance: 30

Telemedicine Physical Exam
10:00AM - 10:50AM
Maja Katrin Artandi, MD
Sharon K Onguti, MD, MPH

This workshop will teach attendees how to approach the physical exam in a video visit. We will start with common complaints that can be easily identified on a video visit by just looking at the patient. We will discuss the best ways to connect with the patient through a virtual visit. We will then demonstrate the provider guided patient self exam for two patient complaints. Participants will have plenty of time to practice and get feedback from faculty.

Maximum attendance: 28

Collaborative Approach to Diagnostic Dilemmas
11:00AM - 11:50AM
Linda Geng, MD, PhD
Justin Boback Lotfi, MD

Patients with symptomatology of unknown etiology present a diagnostic challenge in the general outpatient setting. In addition to complex medical decision making, physicians are further limited by clinical time constraints, burn out, and patient expectations. This workshop session will review the approach used in our general medicine diagnostic consult clinic and highlight keys to success with a collaborative model.

Maximum attendance: 30
POCUS Findings in COVID-19 Patients
11:00AM - 11:50AM
John Kugler, MD
Andre Devendra Kumar, MD

This workshop will provide attendees with a step by step guide for how to perform a lung ultrasound on a COVID 19 patient.  Attendees will then review the different types of pathology one might see in both COVID 19 infected patients as well as patients with other types of respiratory illnesses.  Attendees will be challenged to interpret pathology found on ultrasound images with an interactive review to wrap things up.
