COVID-19 inpatient updates, surge planning. Trends in Occupational health, source of transmission. COVID-19, Effects on the Mental health of Healthcare workers and strategies to cope. Novel type of traumatic stressors. Scope of pandemic, is unprecedented. US is hotspots and cases are rising in CA. Healthcare workers are most at risk for mental health impacts. Stress and traumatic stress, COVID-19 fits into both categories. Discussed the consequences of intensifying emotional distress during this pandemic. This can include: feelings of exhaustion or distress, depression, anxiety and insomnia. Observable contributors to discuss include long work hours, changing protocols, reactions from others, competing demands on time, media coverage, lack of specific treatment and limited supply of PPE.  

Also discussed potential factors impacting pandemic response among healthcare providers, common stress reactions, resilience and the ability to adapt well in the face of adversity or significant sources of stress. Develop resiliency tools, adaptive coping strategies, and consider adaptive coping activities, engage social connections and support, improve sleep health, identify helpful thoughts, and utilize resources.
