Statement of Need

This CME course will provide the pediatrician and family physician learners with up-to-date, best-evidence clinical information on a wide range of clinical issues encountered in daily pediatric practice. The Pediatric Clinical Update - South Bay 2019 will highlight recent advances in pediatric medicine covering orthopedics, depression and anxiety, gastrointestinal issues, and dermatology. In addition, there will be a presentation on making the physician office transgender friendly.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Incorporate updated standards of care for transgender and gender non-conforming youth in order to identify and address the transgender patient’s needs and develop a strategy to make your office transgender or gender non-conforming friendly.
  2. Accurately diagnose the child or adolescent presenting with type 1 diabetes and treat or refer appropriately.
  3. Identify the older adolescent who has not entered puberty and diagnose the reason this patient is delayed.
  4. Counsel adolescents and their parents about the dangers of vaping.
  5. Perform a psychological assessment on the child or adolescent that presents with depression or anxiety and determine effective management strategies or refer to specialists as necessary.

Accreditation
The Stanford University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation
The Stanford University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The California Board of Registered Nursing recognizes that Continuing Medical Education (CME) is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements as long as the course is certified for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM (rn.ca.gov).  Nurses will receive a Certificate of Participation following this activity that may be used for license renewal.
