Date & Location
Tuesday, August 12, 2025, 12:00 PM - Friday, August 11, 2028, 11:59 AM, On Demand

Overview

Join Dr. Joy Bulgar Beck, MD, MS, FACP, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona and our host, Dr. Sharon Hung, MD, FACP, Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University to explore the often-misunderstood topic of perimenopause—a transitional phase leading up to menopause marked by fluctuating hormone levels and a variety of symptoms. The conversation addresses prevalent myths, such as the misconception that menstrual irregularities are necessary for diagnosing perimenopause and the belief that hormone level testing is beneficial during this stage. The discussion outlines the expected changes in menstrual cycles during perimenopause and discusses when it is appropriate to evaluate abnormal uterine bleeding. Learners will gain insights into a range of symptoms, including vasomotor, genitourinary, and sexual changes, as well as cognitive fluctuations and mood disturbances. Additionally, we’ll cover various treatment options, from combined oral contraceptives and vaginal estrogens to menopausal hormone therapy, equipping healthcare providers with the knowledge to better support their patients during this significant life transition.
