Overview
Critical illness is life-threatening. Globally, over 90% of critically ill patients are found outside of ICUs. The critical foundations of care for all critically ill patients include the recognition of critical illness, a rapid response, and rescue interventions during the window of reversibility. Essential Emergency and Critical Care is the care that all critically ill patients should receive in every hospital in the world.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  2. Define what Essential Emergency Critical Care is and is not.
  3. Identify critical illness using vital signs and physical assessments
  4. Respond appropriately and rapidly when a patient is identified as critically ill
  5. Communicate effectively and timely when a critically patient needs additional care
