Updates to the Management of Sepsis & Septic Shock

Sepsis is a syndromic response to infection and a final pathway to death for many infectious diseases worldwide. Anyone affected by an infection, severe injury, or serious non-communicable disease can progress to sepsis, but vulnerable populations are at higher risk. In November of 2021 the Surviving Sepsis Campaign release updated Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock. This online course will review the updated guidelines and cover topics such as: antibiotics for sepsis, long-term outcomes for septic patients, choosing the appropriate fluid for volume resuscitation, choosing vasopressors appropriately, and managing mild, moderate and severe ARDS.

1. Identify sepsis and septic shock early.
2. Control and treat infectious causes of sepsis and septic shock.
3. Support hemodynamics during sepsis and septic shock.
4. Employ lung-protective ventilation strategies for ARDS.
5. Discuss factors affecting the long-term outcomes for patients with sepsis and septic shock.
