Overview
This 4 half-day workshop will look at how we can use the Talking with Voices Approach to help people who hear voices change the relationship with their voices. The workshop will include first person accounts from voice hearers about how they have used the approach and small group experiential exercises to try out techniques. Voice hearing is often a powerful experience that people have and can feel confused and overwhelmed by. We will look at how it is possible to work with voice hearers to better understand why they might be hearing voices and ways to shift the power relationship with voices. The Talking with Voices ideas that we will share will be rooted in Voice Dialogue theory and research conducted by the Hearing Voices Movement. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct experiential interviews in twos and we will introduce and demonstrate how to facilitate dialogue that helps understanding and cooperation develop between the person who hears voice and the voices. We will also look at the obstacles to this approach in a society where voice-hearing as an experience is feared and shunned and possible creative ways of addressing them.
