Nutrition, Microbiome, and Pregnancy

This program will explore the connection between gut health & the many facets of health and well-being from three Stanford experts in the field. Join us to discuss what we have learned about the microbiome so far, the important role nutrition plays in maintaining a healthy microbiome, and what we are hoping to learn about the effect of diet during pregnancy on infant microbiomes in the Maternal & Offspring Microbiome Study (MOMS). The program will define and discuss the importance of probiotics and prebiotics, explore how early in life we develop our microbiomes, the role of diet during pregnancy, and our understanding about how mothers transmit their microbes to their infants.

1. Discuss the importance of probiotics and prebiotics in Maternal/fetal health.
2. Examine the microbiome during pregnancy, and our understanding about how mothers transmit their microbes to their infants.
3. Discuss the maternal microbiomes role in the developmental origins of health and disease.
4. Identify the factors that can shape and influence the neonatal microbiome.
