Overview

This recurring monthly session will give healthcare providers and staff at LPCH, SMCH and SHC a general landscape of LGBTQ+ health care in the United States and best practices toward inclusive and affirming care for LGBTQ+ patients.  LGBTQ+ patients may experience fear around identity discrimination and stigma in health care which negatively impacts their health outcomes. Transgender and gender diverse patients in particular have specific health care needs related to their gender identity.

This foundational training focuses on the care of transgender and gender diverse patients and delivers didactic content that includes population health disparities, gender diversity, identity terminology, and the culturally appropriate use of pronouns in patient communication. The training also includes interactive role-play exercises to immediately apply didactic knowledge to clinical scenarios using the C-I-CARE framework for service excellence.
