Overview

This executive program, offered by Stanford Medicine WellMD & WellPhD Center, is a one-week immersion course and year-long alumni community for approximately 50 physician well-being leaders who are carefully selected based on their role and scope. Using the Stanford WellMD Professional Fufillment Model™ and extensive experience of course faculty, each day is composed of a combination of lectures, activities and interactions designed to help participants cultivate expertise in the principles and applications that contribute to physician well-being.  

Tuition payment (in full) is due within 4 weeks following acceptance.

Target Audience
The course is designed for senior healthcare leaders with organization-wide responsibilities for physician well-being and who have their organization’s support and resources to initiate or expand a focus on physician health and well-being across the system.  Course participants commonly have responsibilities for their organization’s physician well-being, engagement and satisfaction efforts, and they may oversee populations beyond physicians. The roles of participants typically include the following titles: Chief Wellness Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Staff, Chief Experience Officer, Chief Quality Officer, Associate Dean/Senior Associate Dean, and other senior leadership roles.

A complete application is required be considered for acceptance into this course. Senior physician well-being leaders are encouraged to apply. Applications are accepted and declined on a rolling basis. This is a high-demand course with limited space, so we encourage you to apply early. The application must be completed online through this system. Applications will not be accepted by email or other means. 

The application deadline has passed, but the application remains open, as there will likely be a few remaining spots in the course. Please submit your full application as soon as possible. We will consider your application and issue a decision as promptly as we can.
 
The application includes the following components:

• First Name, Last Name, Degree

• Email Address 
• The wellness responsibilities within your role and the specific populations within your scope. 
• Number of physicians in your organization who are within your direct scope of responsibilities
• Number of non-physicians in your organization who are within your direct scope of responsibilities 
• A brief description of your organization, including size, location, populations served, mission, values and strategic priorities, anything that differentiates your organization.
• A description of the organizational support you have for your role and your work as the senior physician wellness leader (e.g., organizational mandate, access to other senior leaders, protected time, staff/center, funding/resources)
• A brief description of the largest challenges currently facing your organization 
• A brief description of the current state of physician well-being in your organization (engagement, burnout, professional fulfillment etc.) 
• An overview of your organizations' efforts to promote physician well-being to date.
• A brief description of the biggest obstacles you/your organization has encountered in your efforts to make progress to promote physician well-being.
• A statement about what you are hoping to learn through this course.

In addition to writing narrative responses to the questions above, you must submit the following documents as part of your application:
• Your resume/ CV
• A professional photo
• Letter of support from a senior leader within your organization (i.e. Dean, CEO, COO, or CMO) stating that the organization is committed to driving physician well-being as a strategic priority and that you are in position to lead those efforts at an organization-wide level. Full letter of support requirements can be found here. 

Payment

Course Fee: $12,500*

Items included in this fee include:

  • Registration, attendance, program materials and most meals
  • Faculty presentations, panels, activities and small group discussions
  • Access to 1:1 meetings with course faculty during daily office hours
  • A library of presentations developed within by course participants addressing critical dimensions to take back to your organization such as “Engaging the C Suite”
  • Network of colleagues and facilitated alumni community for one year.

*Fee does not include lodging. Hotel costs are separate from the CWO course fee; a discounted room rate of $399/night is available to participants once their application for participation is accepted.

Objectives

The Stanford Medicine Chief Wellness Officer Course will support participants to:


  1. Develop expertise regarding the factors that contribute to physician well-being and the organizational science on promoting professional fulfillment.
  2. Assess your organization’s readiness for system change to promote physician well-being and begin to develop a plan for culture change in this domain.
  3. Develop familiarity with a framework to promote professional fulfillment for physicians based on a culture of wellness, efficiency of practice, and personal resilience.
  4. Identify the leadership skills that need to be cultivated to spearhead your organization’s physician wellness efforts.
  5. Build a robust network of colleagues engaged in similar work at other organizations.

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Stanford Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Credit Designation
American Medical Association (AMA)
Stanford Medicine designates this Live Activity for a maximum of 35.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that senior executives occasionally have changes in plans or schedules that will result in their not being able to attend the program as planned. Due to the nature of the course and the participants selected, openings due to cancellations are not easily filled. Cancellation requests must be received in writing. Please send cancellation requests to [email protected]. 

Refunds

Cancellation prior to April 12 (two months in advance of course):

Full tuition refund, less a $1,500 administrative fee

Cancellation between April 13-May 12:

50% tuition refund

Cancellation May 13 or later:

Non-refundable



Stanford cancelation due to COVID-19, travel restrictions, or natural disaster:
Stanford University School of Medicine reserves the right to cancel or postpone this program if necessary. Stanford will abide by all state and county guidelines. In the event that we are unable to hold the course due to COVID-19, state/country government travel restrictions, or in the event of a natural disaster, you will have the option to have your registration fee refunded at 100% or will be given a full credit to use toward the course at a future date. Stanford remains committed to hosting this course. We are not responsible for other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties.
