Prof. Dr. Clemens Ortner is a specialist in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, who is a nationally and internationally renowned expert in the field of point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS). Dr. Ortner has originally been trained at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, graduating as specialist in General Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. Dr. Ortner is further fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and Obstetric Anesthesiology. Dr. Ortner joined the faculty in the Department of Anesthesia, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford School of Medicine in 2018, where he is currently working as Clinical Associate Professor responsible in promoting Point-of-Care Ultrasonography in residency and fellowship training. Dr. Ortner became Co-Director of Perioperative Ultrasonography in the department in 2019, where he is currently leading the Departmental Perioperative Ultrasound Curriculum Committee. As workshop director, Dr. Ortner led several POCUS workshops in the US and abroad. Dr. Ortner has published a significant number of original research focusing on POCUS-applications in the field of Obstetric Anesthesiology and has regularly been invited speaker at national and international meetings.
